We will be talking about Radio-Controlled Cars.


Naoyuki: They've built a big Gundam in Odaiba, haven't they? I used to make lots of Gundam plastic models. They're known as "Gunpura."

David: I used to make plastic models too, but I mainly made real life tanks, planes and battleships. When I was a kid the Japanese company Tamiya was competing with Airfix, which was a British company.

Naoyuki: Tamiya! That name has fond memories. Tamiya was famous for radio-controlled cars, I think.

David: Yeah, I sometimes played with those too. My friend had a radio-controlled helicopter - I was always jealous of it because my parents wouldn't give me the money to get one.

Naoyuki: Me too. In the end I don't think I ever got a radio-controlled car.

今日はラジコンについて話します。

ナオユキ： 最近お台場にでっかいガンダムができたね。昔はガンダムのプラモデルをたくさん作ったものだよ。「ガンプラ」って言うんだけどね。

デーヴィッド： 僕もプラモデルは作ったよ。でも主に実際の戦車や飛行機、戦艦だったね。僕が子供のころは、日本のタミヤっていう会社が、イギリスのエアフィックスという会社と競っていたね。

ナオユキ： タミヤ！その名前懐かしいなー。タミヤはラジコンで有名だったと思うよ。

デーヴィッド： うん、僕も時々それで遊んだよ。僕の友達がラジコンヘリを持っていたんだけど、いつも羨ましく思っていたよ。だって僕の親はそれを買うためのお金くれなかったからなー。

ナオユキ： 僕もだよ。結局ラジコン持ってなかったもん。
