Caroline: The Japanese school and business year starts in April unlike most countries. Every year has an animal attached to it.

Naoyuki: Yes, it's the Oriental Zodiac. We call it "Eto" in Japanese.

Caroline: Well, this year is "THE TIGER" year. Will that start in April or did it start in January?

Naoyuki: It started in January. I think most of the New Year's cards have the animal on them. Have you seen it?

Caroline: Oh, now I remember ! I saw many cards with the tiger picture. I even bought some to send to my Japanese friends. It seems I have a memory lapse...

今日はカレンダーについて話します。

カロライン： ほとんどの国と違って、日本の学校や仕事は4月に始まるわね。毎年それに動物が付いているわ。

ナオユキ： うん、それは干支だよ。日本語で、「エト」って言うよ。

カロライン： ええ、今年は「寅」年ね。それは4月に始まるの？それとも1月に始まったの？

ナオユキ： 1月に始まったよ。ほとんどの年賀状には、動物が書かれてあると思うよ。見たことある？

カロライン： ああ、今、思い出した！虎の絵が書かれた年賀状をたくさん見たわよ。日本人の友達に送るために何枚か買いもしたわ。記憶力が衰えてきたみたい。。。
