Today's entry is about World Heritage Site.
David: In Japan you can see lots of TV programmes about UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The other evening I was watching one about heritage sites in mountainous regions. Then yesterday I saw one about the university in Pennsylvania where George Washington went. Before I came to Japan I don't think I even knew what a World Heritage Site was!
Yoshiko: Are there many in the UK?
David: I'm not sure. I'll look it up on the internet....
David: There are 27! Quite a lot. Oh, I was forgetting; actually in Liverpool, my home town, there is one. It's the old dock area where ships would come from all over the British Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries. During that time Liverpool was one of the most important ports in the world and it became hugely rich, although unfortunately a lot of the wealth came from the slave trade. There are lots of beautiful buildings there, though.
Yoshiko: I wonder if there are any World Heritage Sites in Yokohama!
David: According to the website, the nearest one is Nikko.
Yoshiko: Oh, Toshogu? Have you seen the monkeys?
David: See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil?
Yoshiko: No, I mean the real monkeys who steal everybody's food!

Thank you for voting.
