ラーメン

Today we're talking about ramen.

Naoyuki: You said you like ramen a lot. What's your favorite kind of ramen?

Ken: Oh, my favorite is Hakata Kyushu style, pork bone (tonkotsu) ramen. The thick, creamy soup really suits my taste. But I don't eat it too often. I guess Americans like such heavy foods though. I heard that the famous Hakata ramen shop, Ippudo, opened a shop in New York City, and people line up for a long time to get inside.

Naoyuki: Wow, I never thought pork bone soup ramen would be so popular in other countries. After all, it has a really strong smell when you cook it.

Ken: That's true, I always think those pork bone ramen shops have a dirty feet smell. But the taste is heavenly. I really like this chain shop around Tokyo called "Hakata Tenjin". It's cheap and tasty. What about you Naoyuki? What's you're favorite kind of ramen?

Naoyuki: Well, my favorite is "Ie-kei" ramen, which is an orginal from the Yokohama area. It's made of pork bone soup and soy sauce.

Ken: Wow, that sounds good too. Where can I find some of that? Is that only available in Yokohama?

Naoyuki: No, the recipe is from Yokohama, but I've even seen it in many places, even in Hokkaido. If you want to try some around here, there's a great shop in Fujigaoka called "Ozakura"

Ken: Thanks I'll have to try that. But I guess since it's so heavy I'll have to do some exercise afterwards.

今日はラーメンについて話します。

ナオユキ： ラーメン大好きって言ってたけど、何系のラーメンが好きなの？

ケン： ああ、お気に入りは、九州博多スタイルかな、豚骨ラーメン。濃くて、クリーミーなスープは本当に僕の好みに合ってるよ。でもそんなに頻繁には食べないけどね。多分アメリカ人は、あんな高カロリーな食べ物が好きだと思うよ。博多ラーメンで有名な「一風堂」がニューヨークにオープンして、入るまでに長時間かかるくらい行列ができたって聞いたよ。

ナオユキ： おー、豚骨ラーメンが他の国でそんなに人気がでるなんて思っていなかったよ。何といっても作るときにすごい臭いがするからね。

ケン： そうだね。いつも思うけど、豚骨ラーメン屋さんは汚い足の臭いがするよ。でも、味は天にも昇るような感じ。僕は東京近辺にあるチェーン店の「博多天神」がすごく好きだよ。安くて、おいしくて。ナオユキはどうなの？お気に入りのラーメンは何？

ナオユキ： うーん。僕のお気に入りは、「家系ラーメン」かな。横浜が発祥のね。豚骨スープと醤油で作られている。

ケン： わお、それもいい感じだね。どこで食べられる？横浜だけ？

ナオユキ： いや。調理法は横浜発祥だけど、北海道とかいろいろなところで見かけたよ。この辺で食べてみたいなら、藤が丘に「大桜」というとても良いお店があるよ。
