Today we’ll talk about Kenya.




Naoyuki: You are from Kenya. Japanese people know the name, but they don't know the geographical location in Africa. Could you explain its location?

Juliana: Did you know that Kenya is located in East Africa and it borders Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Indian Ocean. Kenya also lies along the equator and is 3 hours from the Greenwich Meridian.

Naoyuki: Wow! Japan borders no countries and it lies 9 hours from the Greenwich Meridian. I don't know how long it takes from the equator. So it took many hours to come to Japan from Kenya, didn't it?

Juliana: Japan is approximately 3,959Km from the equator. It takes literally 20 hours to get to Kenya from Japan due to the transits involved at Kansai and Dubai airport.

Naoyuki: 20 hours! That sounds very long. However, I want to go to Africa at least once in my lifetime. I hope I can go to the next World Cup in South Africa...

ナオユキ： ジュリアナはケニヤ出身だけど、日本人ってケニヤという名前は知っているけど、アフリカのどこに位置しているか分からないんだ。場所を説明してもらえる？

ジュリアナ： ケニヤは東アフリカに位置していて、ソマリア、エチオピア、スーダン、ウガンダ、タンザニア、インド洋に面しているのよ。知ってた？ケニヤは赤道に沿って位置し、グリニッジ子午線から3時間のところにあるの。

ナオユキ： うわー。日本はどの国とも面していないのに。日本はグリニッジ子午線から9時間のところにあるけど、赤道からどのくらい遠いかは知らないなー。じゃーケニヤから日本に来るのに、ものすごい時間がかかったでしょう？

ジュリアナ： 日本は赤道から約3,959Kmみたいね。日本からケニヤに来るには、本当は20時間かかるの。ドバイと関西で乗換があるしね。
