忘年会

This entry is about year-end party.

Naoyuki: We are going to have a year-end party soon. Do you have such a party in the U.S.?

John: Yes we do. There is usually one company party a year and it is during the holiday season. Employees bring their spouses and everyone goes to a dinner dance.

Naoyuki: One company party a year? You mean you have only one party with your colleagues a year? That's unbelievable!

John: Yes, there is only one organized party. However, there may be get together for special occasions like completing a project or when someone leaves the company.

Naoyuki: Yeah, I see. I was relieved to hear that. In Japan we have not only year-end parties but new-year parties with not only my colleagues but my friends. So in this season we drink too much. I must be careful not to get fat...

John: Yes, in the US too somebody always drinks to much and makes a fool of themselves. And we also over eat during the holidays. So most people's New Years resolution is to go on a diet...

今日は忘年会について話します。

ナオユキ： もうすぐ忘年会があるけど、アメリカにはそんな飲み会ってあるの？

ジョン： うん、あるよ。たいてい1年に1回会社の飲み会があるね、休みの季節になると。従業員は奥さんや旦那さんを連れてきて、夕食のダンスに行くんだ。

ナオユキ： 会社の飲み会が1年に1回？同僚との飲み会が1年に1回ってこと？そんなの信じられない。

ジョン： うん、組織だった飲み会は1回だね。でも、特別な機会、例えばプロジェクトが終わったとき時とか、誰かが会社を辞める時とかは、みんなで集まるよ。

ナオユキ： あーなるほど。それを聞いて安心した。日本では、忘年会だけでなく新年会を、会社の同僚だけでなく友達同士でもやるから、この時期はいっぱい飲むね。太らないように注意しないといけない。

ジョン： うん、アメリカでも誰かいつも飲みすぎて、笑い物になってるよ。そして休みには食べすぎちゃって。だからほとんどの人の新年の抱負は、ダイエットをすることになるんだ。。。
