卓球

We will be talking about table tennis.

Naoyuki: The 2009 World Table Tennis Championships were held in Yokohama from 28 April to 5 May 2009. All the gold medalists were Chinese.

Caroline: Really? I never knew that Chinese people were that good at sports! Why do you think they perform so well at table tennis (ping pong)?

Naoyuki: Table tennis has its origins in England. So England's team should be strong, but... I think it is easy for many Chinese people to play because it doesn't require a lot of space and it is a lot of fun.

Caroline: So your conclusion is that there is limited space in China and a high population density and that is why they play table tennis?

Naoyuki: That may have attracted people in China first. Then they became stronger and people were attracted more and more. Then finally they dominated the gold medals. I'm not sure.

今日は卓球について話します。

カロライン： 本当？中国の人たちがそんなにスポーツが得意だなんて知らなかったわ。どうして卓球で彼らがそんなに良い成績をだせると思う？

ナオユキ： 卓球はイギリスで生まれたから、イギリスのチームが強いはずだけど、、、多くの中国の人たちがプレーしやすかったんじゃないかな。広い場所いらないし、とても楽しいし。

カロライン： あなたの結論としては、中国では場所が限られていて、人口密度が高いから、そういう理由で彼らは卓球をやったってこと？

ナオユキ： 始めはそれが中国の人たちを惹きつけたんじゃないかな。それから、彼らが強くなって、さらに惹きつけられていった。そして金メダルを独占した。定かではありません。
