We will be talking about TOEIC.

Caroline: Have you taken the TOEIC Test? What was your score?

Naoyuki: Well, I got 920 in March.

Caroline: Wow!! That was a good score. What was your reason for taking the test?

Naoyuki: Now I'm taking the test for my business, but previously it was a kind of hobby to get a higher score.

Caroline: Are there any particular benefits of getting a high score?

Naoyuki: Some people can get promoted by getting a certain score like 700 or 800. Furthermore, I think the possibility to use English at work would be expanding. In my case after I got 895 in TOEIC, I was assigned to a foreign team to support a French leader. The other members were all Indians. It was very hard for me, but during the period my English became more fluent than before.

Caroline: You are so fortunate to have done TOEIC because it was a perfect "STARTER" for your English language acquisition. It is widely known that "experience is the best teacher". It is easier to learn a language by speaking (using it) than just studying. That is why you became more fluent after your assignment to the foreign team.

今日はTOEICについて話します。

カロライン： TOEIC受けたことある？スコアは？

ナオユキ： うん、3月は920点だった。

カロライン： へー！！良いスコアだったわね。なんでTOEIC受けているの？

ナオユキ： 今は自分のビジネスのためだけど、以前はより高い点を取るのが趣味みたいなもんだったかな。
カロライン： 高い点を取ることで、何か特別な利点ってあるの？
ナオユキ： 700点とか800点みたいな得点を取ると昇進できる人もいるね。さらには、仕事で英語を使う機会が広がると思うな。僕の場合、TOEICで895点を取った後、フランス人のリーダーの支援で、外国人チームに配属されたんだ。それ以外のメンバーは全員インドの人で。とても大変だったんだけど、その間僕の英語は以前より流暢になったんだ。
カロライン： TOEIC取ってて幸運だったわね。それが英語上達の第一歩になったんですものね。「経験は最高の先生」って広く知られているわ。ただ単に勉強しているより、話したり（使ったり）したほうが、学びやすいものね。外国人チームに配属になった後、より流暢になったのはそのせいね。
