ウォシュレット

We will be talking about washlets.

Naoyuki: I recently read in a newspaper article that washlets aren't much used outside of Japan.

David: It's true, I've never seen an electric one outside of Japan. But they use bidets in France and other European countries. Actually, having said that, my Aunt and Uncle have a bidet in their bathroom. Maybe it's because they are Francophiles.

Naoyuki: Is it different to Japanese ones?

David: Yeah, it's kind of old fashioned. It's not electric, and just has a tap that you turn on manually. I've never used it. When I was a kid I was scared to touch it.

Naoyuki: There's a barrier you have to cross the first time you use it, isn't there?

David: Yes, the first time I used a Japanese washlet I was a bit nervous because it was at my friend's house!

今日はウォシュレットについて話します。

ナオユキ： 最近新聞で読んだんだけど、ウォシュレットは日本以外ではあまり使われていないんだって。

デーヴィッド： そうだよ。僕は日本以外で電気のやつは見たことないよ。でもフランスや他のヨーロッパの国では、おしり洗浄器を使っているんだ。実際そう言っておきながら、僕のおばさんとおじさんは浴室におしり洗浄器持ってたけどね。多分彼らはフランスびいきだから。

ナオユキ： 日本のとは違うの？

デーヴィッド： うん、ちょっと古いんだよね。電気じゃなくて、ただ蛇口があるだけ。手動で回すんだ。一度も使ったことないけどね。子供のころは触るのが怖かったよ。

ナオユキ： 最初は使うのに何か壁があるよね？

デーヴィッド： うん、僕が始めて日本のウォシュレットを使った時は少し緊張したよ。だって、友達の家だったしね！
