We will be talking about the buzzwords-of-the-year contest .

Naoyuki: Do you know the winner of the 2009 buzzwords-of-the-year contest?

Caroline: No, I don't know who won. Who was it and what was the buzzword?

Naoyuki: This year's grand prize was awarded to "a change of government" which was used by the Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.

Caroline: "A change of government" ? What is the deeper meaning (changing the ruling party or constitutional reforms?) and how would you say it in Japanese?

Naoyuki: In the previous election the DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan) aimed for a change of government instead of the LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) and we say "Seiken Koutai" in Japanese. They said "Seiken Koutai" as a slogan everyday, so the words became well known.
