We will be talking about a homestay.


Naoyuki: Have you ever had an international homestay?

Caroline: Yes, I have. I have two homestay experiences in Japan. I lived with a family in Usa city, Kyushu. Later, I also had a chance of staying with another family at Kawasaki. They were both fantastic experiences and they helped me a lot in dealing with culture shock.

Naoyuki: Oh, great! So what was the biggest culture shock in Japan?

Caroline: Hot springs !! I was shocked to see people bath together and no one seemed shy. In most other countries, hot springs are only a tourist site for viewing and not for bathing.

Naoyuki: Hmm... It's quite usual for us. You will get used to it!

今日はホームステイについて話します。

ナオユキ： 海外のホームステイって行ったことある？

カロライン： ええ、あるわ。私は、日本で２回ホームステイをしたことがあるの。九州の宇佐市のご家族と住んで、その後、川崎の別のご家族とも暮らしたことがあるわ。両方ともすばらしい経験だった。彼らは、私がカルチャーショックを乗り越えるのをとてもよく手伝ってくれたわ。

ナオユキ： おー、すごい！じゃー日本で何が一番のカルチャーショックだった？

カロライン： 温泉 !! みんなで一緒に入浴するのはショックだったわ。誰も恥ずかしそうじゃなかったし。他のほとんどの国では、温泉は観光するためのもので、入浴するためのものではないのよ。

ナオユキ： ふーん。僕らにはとても自然なことなんだけどね。すぐ慣れるよ！
