Bored/Boring

We will be talking about the use of the words "bored" and "boring".

Frankie: I've got a funny story. The other day I was watching TV with my Japanese friend, and he turned to me and said "Wow, I'm really boring!"

Naoyuki: OK... why's that so funny? That show doesn't sound very interesting.

Frankie: It wasn't very interesting -- it was boring! hahaha!

Naoyuki: Why's that so funny?

Frankie: The show was boring, but my friend told me that he was boring! I told him "Don't worry, you're not that boring!"

Naoyuki: Oh, I get it now! He should have said "I'm bored".

Frankie: Yeah, that's right. Actually, I hear people make that mistake all the time. Sometimes it is hard not to laugh!

フランキー： 面白い話があるんだけど。この前、日本人の友達とテレビを見ていたら、彼が僕のほうを向いて言ったんだ。「うゎー、 I'm really boring! 」

ナオユキ： うん。。。何がそんなにおかしいの？その番組はあまり面白くなさそうだね。

フランキー： あまり面白くなかったよ。 it was boring! はっはっは。

ナオユキ： 何がそんなにおかしいの？

フランキー： その番組はつまらなかった。でも、僕の友達は僕に、彼がつまらなかったって言ったんだよ！僕は彼に言ったよ、「心配するなよ、君はそんなにつまらなくはないよ！」って。

ナオユキ： あー、今分かった！彼は、「I'm bored (僕、飽きた)」って言うべきだったんだね。

フランキー： そう、その通り。実際、多くの人がいつもその間違いをするね。笑いをこらえるのが大変な時もあるよ！
