Today we'll talk about beer.
Yoshiko: Yesterday I went to a Beer Garden. This is the season when beer tastes best, isn't it?
David: Yeah, although I think beer tastes good all year around! So what's your favourite kind of beer?
Yoshiko: Yeah, I suppose it is good all year round! My favourite is Asahi Super Dry, but I sometimes like more full bodied beers, so at the moment I'm drinking a type called Muroka . You?
David: I like English bitter ale the most. It's full bodied and bitter, hence the name. You can buy it in Japan at some "British pubs", but it costs a lot of money - around 1,000 yen. (In Britain you can buy it for more like 350 yen!) I like stout a lot too, though. They say a pint of Guiness has the same nutritional value as a steak.
Yoshiko: Now that I've heard that, I suddenly don't want to drink too much Guiness. I want to try lots of different beers, but imported stuff is expensive too. Anyway, maybe I'll drink some beer tonight too...
David: I really like Japanese beer, but the good thing about living in Britain is that lots of European beer is cheaply available because of the European Union. We don't have to worry about the price of imported beer. Oh well, Japanese beer is good enough!

ヨシコ： 昨日はビヤガーデンに行って来たわ～。ビールがおいしい季節になったわね！
デーヴィッド： そうだね。でもビールは年中おいしいよ！何のビールが好き？
ヨシコ： 確かに、一年中おいしい！私はアサヒのスーパードライが一番好きだけど、たまに濃いのが飲みたくなって、この頃は無濾過っていう銘柄のもいけるわ。デ－ヴィッドは？
デーヴィッド： 一番好きなのはビターという種類。ビターというのは、濃いビールで、苦い味がする。多分日本にある「イギリスパブ」みたいなところで買えるけど、千円くらいはする。イギリスでは350円位で買えるのに。。。黒ビールも好きだけどね。ギネス一杯は、栄養的にステーキと同じなんだって。
ヨシコ： え・・・それを聞いたら、ちょっとギネスを飲むのが怖くなって来たわ。いろいろなビールを飲みたいけど、輸入ものは高いのね。今日も美味しいビールが飲めればいいわ。
デーヴィッド： 僕は日本のビールはすごく好きなんだけど、イギリスに住んでいて良いことは、EUに加盟しているから、ヨーロッパの国々のビールが安く買えることなんだ。だから輸入ビールの価格は気にしなくていい。まあ、日本のビールも十分おいしいけどね。
