This entry is about New Year's Eve.

Naoyuki: It's getting close to the end of the year. Temples ring their bells 108 times on midnight, during 31 December to 1 January. Do you know why?

John: No, why is that Naoyuki?

Naoyuki: Each bell rings represent 108 elements of bonnō, defilements, which is said people have in their mind. The bells are rung to repent 108 of the bonnō.

John: So you mean, it has to do with asking for forgivness of the sins they have comitted through out the year?

Naoyuki: That's right. So let's look back at the year and listen to the bells quietly.

John: Yes, and try to be better people in 2009.
