Caroline: The Japanese train system is amazingly efficient, modern and it has clean trains and an extensive network of lines, covering the whole of Japan. It is accessible to and from almost every city and town of any size.

Naoyuki: Yes, that's right.

Caroline: In addition, they are punctual and train information (train times and fares) is easily available in English, Japanese and sometimes Korean language.

Naoyuki: However there are so many lines crossing in Tokyo. Many people who come here for the first time get lost.

Caroline: Nowadays that's not a problem because there are English maps to help foreigners and the station masters are of great help to all first timers. Most of them understand English and for those who don't, you just need to mention your destination and they will assist you.

Naoyuki: Sounds great. You must have a sense of direction!

今日は日本の鉄道網について話します。

ナオユキ： 日本の鉄道網ってどう思う？

カロライン： 日本の鉄道網は驚くほど能率的で、近代的ね。きれいな電車に、広範囲に及び日本全体を網羅する鉄道網。ほとんどどんな大きさの都市や町からも利用ができる。

ナオユキ： うん、そうだね。

カロライン： それに加え、時間は正確だし、電車情報（時間や料金）は、英語、日本語、時々韓国語でも利用できる。

ナオユキ： でも、東京には、とても多くの線が通っている。初めて来る多くの人たちは迷っちゃうね。
カロライン： 今はそんなに問題でもないわ。英語の地図があって外国人の助けになるし、駅長さんたちも初めての人たちすべての力になってくれる。ほとんどの人は英語を理解できるし、できない人には、目的地を伝えるだけでいいのよ。そしたら彼らが助けてくれる。
ナオユキ： すごいなー。君は方向感覚が優れているに違いない。
