We will be talking about the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) conference today.
Naoyuki: Hey Frankie, did you see that Obama went to see the Great Buddha in Kamakura?
Frankie: Well, people had such high expectations for him, and a lot of Americans think that he hasn't lived up to those expectations.
Naoyuki: What do you mean "high expectations"?
Frankie: Well, I think a lot of people thought that he would fix all of America's problems overnight. The reality of it is that there are a lot of big problems to be fixed. The economy is bad, unemployment is high, the situation in Afghanistan doesn't seem to be improving... the list goes on and on.
Naoyuki: You sound kind of depressed about it, Frankie... is everything OK?
Frankie: I just hope that he can hurry up with the "change" that he promised, or he might lose his job in 2012!
Naoyuki: That might be so, but four years is longer than most of our Prime Ministers get...

フランキー： うん、見たよ。彼がまた見る機会があって良かったよ。鎌倉は本当特別な場所だよ。
ナオユキ： アメリカでは最近オバマはあんまり人気がないって聞いたけど。何かあったの？
フランキー： うん、彼にはみんな高い期待を寄せていたからね。多くのアメリカ人は彼がその期待に応えていないって思っているんだよ。
ナオユキ： 「高い期待」ってどういうこと？
フランキー： うん、多くの人が、オバマがアメリカの抱えているすべての問題を、一夜にして解決するって思っていたと思うよ。現実には、解決されるべきたくさんの大きな問題があって。経済は悪くて、失業率が高く、アフガニスタンの状況も改善しているようには見えない。例を挙げればきりがないよ。
ナオユキ： 何か、元気ない感じだねー、フランキー。大丈夫なの？
フランキー： 僕はただ、彼が約束した「変化」を急いでもらいたいと願うだけだよ。さもなくば、彼は２０１２年に職を失うよ！
ナオユキ： そうなるんだろうね、でも、４年はほとんどの僕らの総理大臣より長いな。。。
