Frankie will be talking about his hiking trip to Mt. Kumotori.

I haven’t been out in the countryside for a while, so I decided to climb Mt. Kumotori last week. Kumotori is at the junction of Tokyo, Saitama, and Yamanashi Prefectures. I didn’t even know that Tokyo had any mountains, but Kumotori is quite tall (2,017 meters).

From Tokyo, you can take an express train on the Seibu line from Ikebukuro Station to Seibu Chichibu Station, and then a bus which takes you to Mitsumine Shrine, where you start the hike.

I couldn’t find anyone to go with, so I decided to try it by myself. The hike was strenuous, but it was well worth it. The views on the way up were breathtaking.

I had planned on camping, so I brought a tent and a sleeping bag with me. I wanted to camp near the top of the mountain, but I got a late start, so I had to stop before I reached the top. There was a small mountain lodge that was unlocked, so I stayed in there instead of pitching my tent.

It was cold -- VERY cold! I have a good quality sleeping bag and a small camping stove, so I was able to stay warm and have hot udon noodles for dinner. When I woke up in the morning, I could make myself hot coffee, which always feels great in the freezing cold.

I left my backpack in the lodge and headed up to the top. Unfortunately it was cloudy, so I couldn't see Mt. Fuji. It was so high, I couldn’t believe that I was in Tokyo! I am going to go back in the spring, so hopefully I will be able to get a better view from the top.

今日はフランキーが雲取山のハイキングについて話します。

しばらく、地方に行っていなかったので、先週、雲取山に登ることに決めました。雲取は、東京都、埼玉県、山梨県と交わっています。僕は東京に山があることさえ知りませんでしたが、雲取はかなり高いです（2,017 メートル）。

東京からは、西武線の池袋駅から西武秩父駅まで急行で行くことができます。そしてそこから三峰神社へ行くバスに乗ります。そこからハイキングがスタートです。

誰も一緒に行く人が見つからなかったので、1人で行くことに決めました。ハイキングはとても大変でしたが、その価値はありました。途中の景色は息をのむようでした。

 キャンプをしようと計画していたので、テントと寝袋を持って行きました。頂上近くでキャンプをしたかったのですが、遅く出発したので、頂上手前で止まらなければなりませんでした。鍵のかかっていない小さな山小屋があったので、テントを張る代わりに、そこに泊まりました。

寒かった、とても寒かった！僕は、良質の寝袋と小さなキャンプ用ストーブを持っていたので、暖かく保つことができ、夕食に温かいうどんを食べました。起きたときは、自分でコーヒーを作ることができました。凍るような寒さの中では、いつも気分が最高になります。

僕はリュックを小屋に置いて、頂上に向かいました。残念ながら曇っていたので、富士山を見ることができませんでした。そこはとても高くて、僕が東京にいるなんて、信じられませんでした！僕は、春にまた行く予定なので、頂上からもっと良い景色が見れることを願います。
